Preliminary task 1 - planning "out of reach"

Concept

Title: Out Of Reach

Target audience: teenagers & adults

Institutional/Genre Conventions in the film

1. Suspense - we will create this by using close up shots and cut off camera angles.

2. Tension - The short and tight shots with tilted angle camera shots building up to a big scene.

3. Jump scare - The murder will pop up out of nowhere to give a silent fright to the audience.

4. Non diegetic sound - the sound track and also jump-scare sound gives one of the films we are getting inspiration from is a quiet place.

5. Isolating characters - when a vulnerable character leaves safety and the mother is alone in the car creating anticipation and building worry.

6. Chase - a fast paced atmosphere and front/back tracking diegetic sound plus soundtrack to build the tension of the scene.

7. Crime - Murder and kidnapping though we won't show any murder the bad guy is known as a cereal killer.

8. Vulnerable Characters - A little girl and a mother all alone no way to defend themselves.

9. Types of angles - Low shot/ establishing shot/

10. Setting - Empty school

11. Shadows & Low lighting - Editing and camera angles shooting at night

The Plot Synopsis:

Act 1 summary

There's a mum whos a school teacher her young daughter age 8 the mum has finished work late while her daughter is there with her to go home when they go to leave there is conflict caused by the mums phone which the daughter accidentally left at school.

Act 2 summary

They both go to the car and when the mum finds out her phone is still inside she tells her little daughter to go get it carelessly not knowing there is a murder on the lose in the area which she quickly learns by hearing an alert on the radio shocked by the worrying news she sits there when suddenly.

Act 3 summary

She feels someone staring at her so she looks in the review mirror and where she is greeted by a cold stare from the murder who is on the lose petrified she races out of the car and gets chased by the creepy murder and that's where our film ends..

Characters and names

The mother - who will be called mum her character is not only vulnerable but also a protection figure for the little girl who she's meant to protect her roll contrasts parent and protective.

The daughter - Younger daughter 8 years old roll she is vulnerable and small you get the sense of innocents and she's unaware of what's going on.

Practicalities of filming/content

Our filming site with be our school some of the challenges we face is since we are filming at night by the dance studio make sure there's no people where we want to film but on the good side since its our school it will be easier to find a child actor or kid and we could use one of the parents or even our own parent.

- city impact school ground will get permission from people at night by the bottom carpark right next to a long hallway by some of the little kids classrooms.

- we will be filming at night hopefully around 8:00 to 9:00 when its dark.

- we are going for cloudy weather or clear but if it does rain we will be prepared we can still film the hallway with no change but for the car shots if we need to we can go to the covered carpark.

at the empty closed grounds, a classroom stands out in a dark hallway out of place and disarranged like a puzzle waiting to be solved.

DISSOLVE TO: establishing shot of carpark/ security shot of hallway with back lighting coming from light in classroom/ mysterious questioning point of view/

INT. CITY IMPACT SCHOOL - HALLWAY - NIGHT

*mother packing up work with daughter on phone in classroom*

MUM, 30 and a English preschool teacher drained from work, ambles over.

MUM

"time to go, lily"

THE LITTLE DAUGHTER, 6, packs up to leave and drops phone without.

mother and daughter go to leave school to--

MUM

"go get my phone, lily"

LILY

"but I'm too scared its dark"

MUM

"don't be silly there's nothing there and I'm right here to watch you"

*gets out of car walks inside dark hallway looking scared*

*turns on radio*

RADIO

'Shocking news a viscous murderer has broken out of jail, last seen 20 minutes ago in Albany, please stay at home and if you do see him the only thing you could do to survive is run, as far as you can to safety.'

*uneasy and disturbed knowing her daughter is all alone
